At restaurant Roka, it’s all in the name. No, we aren’t referring to word of mouth or the power of a brand’s reputation (although, as a first-class and widely renowned chain with footholds through-out the city of London, Roka has plenty of that too.) But, rather more uniquely, the syllables of Roka — when parted and defined — literally spell out friendship (Ro) and warm, positive energy (Ka). It’s not dissimilar to the perfect amalgamation of ingredients (X seasoning compliments X meat); each part of this restaurant is working in tandem to produce a delicious atmosphere — partly social and bustling, and partly relaxed and comforting.
As a result, Roka makes one of the best places to eat in Canary Wharf. Floor to ceiling windows offer a spectacular view of Canada square, and the metropolis that sprawls out underfoot in piazzas and upwards in shining high-rises.
Not one to be overshadows by the buzz of the city, Roka’s cosmopolitan-chic interior had us feeling just the perfect amount of enclosed within it’s space. Touches of bamboo and glossy swathes of fatsia-like foliage pay a stylish homage to the restaurant’s Japanese ‘robatayaki’ cuisine, while providing a lovely foil to the urban skyline outside: somewhere to nestle down over solid, caramel-hue dining tables and slate serving platters and enjoy food that we felt privileged to be able to witness first hand — along without fellow diners. Yes, Roku takes the open kitchen to the next level — with a showstopper of a suave kitchenette taking centre-stage in the heart of the restaurant floor-plan. The meticulous preparation of eastern cuisine, in small, gastro sculptures, is made to be admired.
Thanks to the astonishingly fast service, (perhaps the efficiency of the corporate towers that loom over the square has filtered indiscriminately into the restaurant below) we had only mere moments between admiring the construction of our dinner choices and actually finding them places before us, ready to relish.
We would have felt bereft without trying out Roku’s tasting menu: a seasonal easel filled with flavours of the moment. Beef dumplings warmed us from the inside, accompanied as they were with a touch of ginger that het up the meat to perfection. Afterwards, the mini dessert platter allowed us to cool our taste buds with a whimsical array of sweet treats like almond brulee, miso and cherry blossom ice cream with the stand-out mango toffee.
The abundance of Sushi and Sashimi at Roku can’t be overlooked either. For fans of this staple Japanese speciality, try the jalapeno mayonnaise which, when paired with the classic (and gorgeously prepared) vine-grad rice (and fresh, spicy tuna, in our case) certainly lived up to the restaurant’s titular promise of warm energy.
Roka restaurant sparked up our senses with it’s deliciously picante menu. But, due to the hypnotic showcase of it’s chefs at work and an undeniably homely atmosphere — also mellowed us in body and mind. No easy feat, while sat within one of the capital’s most lively and thriving public squares. That’s what makes Roku one of the best names to look up near you in London.

Matching the vibrancy of Berkeley Square is the restaurant Park Chinois – a hidden oasis for cuisine which is as extravagant as its design and entertainment. The ground floor Salon de Chine dining space pays homage to the yesteryear 1930s Shanghai speakeasys.
Park Chinois starts its theatrics the moment guests are ushered through a seemingly impenetrable wooden door. This immediately evokes an image of a glorious speakeasy setting, and sets them up for the reveal of an opulent and extravagant dining space. Swathes of plush red velvet and glittering gold juxtapose light pink and blue floral fabric. Windows veiled with white net and red velvet evoke a sultry atmosphere and emphasise the glow emanating from lamps fringed with burgundy silk. Its provocative ambience is also harnessed through the gilded candles, and draping crystal chandeliers reflecting shards of light from the mirrored ceiling panels. The acoustics are exactly what one would expect from a high-end speakeasy – their nightly live brass band immediately sets the tone for an electric night filled with remixes of Beyonce and Bruno Mars. Park Chinois restaurant London exudes flash and glitz from its design, music through to its opulent and innovative Chinese cuisine.
The cuisine is bold and typifies the highest level of skill with its combination of global culinary techniques. It is made with traditional Chinese flavours and ingredients whilst presented in a contemporary and western style. There is a menu for every occasion be it for a light lunch or long dinner. For a taste of everything, we recommend selecting the set-lunch or dinner menus, but for groups larger than six, their group dining menu is the best option. Their dinner menu encompasses opulent starters of Caviar, appetisers of tea smoked beef ribs, wasabi prawns and shell crab dishes. Traditional dim sum dishes can also be ordered as a starter with options ranging from wagyu beef, duck, scallop and vegetable fillings. For lighter starters, delicious soups and salads can be ordered which showcase the wonderful subtly of Chinese flavours. Park Chinois restaurant London has every type of meat dish imaginable including its Wagy beef, lamb, pork, duck and chicken dishes. The mains celebrate Chinese flavours with excellent flair and attention to traditional techniques. Many of the dishes are stir-fried in classic flavours including sweet & sour, mango, and peanut sauce. A highlight is the £79 Stir-fried Chilean Wagyu Rib-eye with Wagyu salami and chili. Park Chinois has a variety of fish an shellfish as well as noodle and rice dishes. From the fish selection, one of our favourites was the £60 Dover sole fillet prepared using a classic wok to help the natural flavours as well as the XO sauce shine. Other fantastic options include a sea bass, native lobster, king crab and prawn dishes that each deliver their own combination of wonderful classic flavours. Their noodle dishes are equally phenomenal – try the vermicelli noodles with sumptuous native lobster or the braised beef with ho fun noodles. Whichever you select, you will not be disappointed as each dish typifies the legacy of traditional Chinese flavour profiles whilst injecting this with modern cooking techniques.
Down the spiralling staircase is where the magic of Park Chinois is truly captured. The space is home to Club Chinois where live entertainment and music are the beating heart of the space. The design is as luxurious as the restaurant, combining opulence with more opulence. Park Chinois restaurant London has a labyrinth of cocktails to choose from – select from their aperitifs, signature cocktails, refashioned classics and even from their non-alcoholic list. There are so many wonderful alternatives, and for nights that begin at the Salon de Chine and transition to the Club Chinois. Highlights include the £15 Yuzu Levant made with The Botanist Gin, Apricot and Yuzu Liqueur, apple juice and apricot jam. Or a refashioned classic including the Vodka Collins, a contemporary take on a classic Tom Collins. This cocktail is made with marmalade vodka, Floc de Gascogne Blanc, yuzu marmalade, elderflower, ginger, lemon, peach bitters and a splash of soda water.
The prime Berkeley Square is home to a plethora of restaurants and bars that thrive from day into night and Park Chinois is no exception! It combines the best of luxury design and cuisine with an unparalleled flair for an electric and sultry ambience. Whether you are having lunch, dinner or drinks at the upstairs bar, the extraordinary Park Chinois experience is the same and cannot be duplicated any where else!

The Bagatelle Restaurant London cannot be faulted for harnessing the far-flung influences of it’s French and Mediterranean cuisine, and bringing them to a joyous collision deep in the centre of Mayfair.
European conscientiousness, that effortless Parisian swagger and the joy of cooking with the ideals of the world’s healthiest diet all ensure that the Bagatelle restaurant — from the breathless second one steps inside — is remarkably, and rightfully, proud of it’s cultural identity and it’s top quality as a dining experience.
At Bagatelle, we found ourselves feasting on the atmosphere before the main course even arrived. Luminescent, lavish lashings of blue and red took up the furnishings while a staggering sea-foam hue vector panning the ceiling left us feeling adrift in the Mediterranean sea in the best, most content way possible. As much as the venue — Bagatelle restaurant London — welcomes the city, it’s also keeping one corner in the clouds, and raising its guests aloft with it.
Finding ourselves seated just off from the glamorous bar at a secluded collection of candlelit dining tables — we were in for an inspiring meal at Bagatelle. The immaculate cream decor only set off the vibrancy of the dishes once they began to arrive — with food swanning over like continents of vivid colour; green pancakes here, and over there, in a savoury island of flavour — the vivid signature dish of Tartare de than Bagatelle. This yellow fin tuna tartat finished with a luminous green avocado salad and lime vinaigrette below golden taro crisps struck the senses before we had even tasted it.
And no wonder, Chef Dale Osborne trained at the Grand Hotel du Cap-Ferret in the south of France; a noteworthy and capable captain, then, to steer the culinary details of such a place to Bagatelle restaurant London. The food was so accomplished we made like the French and treated ourselves — eating there twice. First, partaking in the decadent sweetness of the brunch menu with the taste of Paris chocolate cream, almond and avocado. With no end to the temptation we then went for a sharing option (“To share or not to share” by order– proving that at Bagatelle’s there is no judgement in indulgence) and also enjoyed the Bagatelle pancakes with the pleasing freshness of the organic blueberries offset perfectly by a devilish caramel drizzle. Bagatelle’s even made breakfast into a party for us with the Joie de Vivre Cocktail (lime and pink pepper gin) exacerbating the sweet treats.
Thoroughly convinced, we could not help but return in the evening to try the Pomme frites with black truffle oil and Parmesan, with spectacular samples of good champagne to boot. The hearty, earthy Mediterranean richness of the truffle (also available on pizza) satisfied the palette and filled the stomach. As grounded as we felt from the ample dinner, the atmosphere itself kept the evening soaring — as a centrepiece of live DJ music grew both in energy and sheer vivacious volume throughout dinner — bringing the sparkling possibility of a night in Paris swooning through the room above the diners heads.
At Bagatelle Restaurant London, we found a day out in Mayfair lead us to a French-Mediterranean dream, with food and ambience as delicious as it was dizzying. This high-end restaurant is surely one of the best place to celebrate in London, even if you have nothing particular to celebrate — dining in this little pocket of happiness will leave you cheered enough. Bagatelle is infectious.
